Super Excited!

What’s ahead in the Horror and Sci-Fi genres is amazing and exciting, well for us Horror Geeks and Sci-Fi Junkies.

With the long awaited Eli Roth’s “Green Inferno” which brings us after a very long time, a Cannibal movie we can only hope this could be a resurrection of sorts of the Man eat Man films. Of course this may not be everyone’s cup of juice however I really enjoy them except the graphic animal abuse for viewer ratings/shock value in the early Cannibal movies such as “Cannibal Holocaust” and “Cannibal Ferox” these exploitation movies were a very risky thing to aim for at that time but like many things that are frowned upon during that specific era they sometimes catch on and set a bar. There are many horrors on the horizon due for release as well as many planned remakes and a little birdy tells me that Robert Englund is actually trying to get the studios on board with a Freddy vs Michael Myers. If they do decide to do this style of movie cross over again, I do hope more thought is put into the story as Freddy vs Jason was good but NOT great, there was a lot of work that was needed. We are also on the brink of “Ash vs Evil Dead” which I must say I’m on the fence with. This goes beyond myself being a horror fan because when does one say when? On the side of a horror fan it has to be said that I think they left it a little too long for a TV series based on the character Ash having any kind of impact on the fan base out there now as there has been so much released for horror fans. Ash was last in “Army of Darkness” in 1992 and “Evil Dead 2” in 1987 in almost 30 years they hope to have this draw a base. I’m sure it will but I think like myself many people will be thinking YES YES but if this was out 15-20 years ago, hell I’d have bought up all the merchandise for sure. Now on the side of a man who has attended many of the horror and sci-fi conventions both for business and pleasure. Bruce Campbell is often a regular at these events and just like William Shatner he has his very own set up thing going on.

Bruce I’m sure knows he is a legend to many men and women around my age, not only did we love his Dead work but all the thing between. But unfortunately Bruce has built this reputation like some other celebrities that he is not only hard to get along with but he is very strict regarding appearances. Some actors, performers and artists are very grounded and will shake your hand, throw an arm over a shoulder hell even joke around while you’re posing to have your moment with said actors memorialised after paying $20-$30, but when many of my friends who cued up in what seemed a mile long line to get an autograph or photo op with Bruce, it is literally like you are paying for the privilege of being in the presence of him, and one of my friends who was sorely disappointed as when he finally got in front of Bruce all he did was look up once, sign a photo stand up from his seat (didn’t move round the table) and not even look my friend in the eyes, then my friend was rush out the other side. This is why I will NOT ever pay to meet anyone, sure I have people I love to watch and people I’d love to sit down with and have a chin wag with but I will not pay for that. They are not working for me so I’m not paying them any money. Just my philosophy.

But onto more sci-fi news…X-Files! YES.

Now if like me you happen to know the names Spike, Willow, Angel then Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a watch every week for sure, just like putting a X on your bedroom window or hearing those memorable words “I Want to Believe” echo during an X-Files episode. I am a huge fan of X-Files and all the episodes, I honestly can say this was my favorite show. It had everything I loved, Cryptozoology, Ufology and urban legends. I could not get enough of this show and the pairing of Mulder and Scully was amazing, there was suspicion, sexual tension, love and trust. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson carried the characters and gave them a real sense of who they were. The TV series ran ’93 to ’02 and during this time in ’98 a full feature film was released and after the TV series finished it would be six years later that they again would release a second feature film “X-Files: I Want to Believe”.

This is great and I can’t wait for the new series to start and I’ll be one of the first in line to buy the boxset when it’s released. I will be sure to add more of these products to Haven of Horrors when it becomes available.

In the meantime thanks for reading and stay scary!
